Reduction of DC Capacitor Size in Three-Phase Input/Single-Phase Output Power Cells of Multi-Cell Converters through Resonant and Predictive Control: A Characterization of Its Impact on the Operating Region

Cascaded H-bridge drives require using a significant-size capacitor on each cell to deal with the oscillatory power generated by inverter in DC-link. This results bulky reduced reliability due circulating second harmonic current through DC-link capacitors. In this article, control strategy based finite set model predictive and proportional-resonant controller is proposed compensate for required cell’s input rectifier. With strategy, free operation achieved, allowing possibility of reducing size and, consequence, dimensions. The feasibility scheme verified experimental one cascade achieving an capacitance 141 times smaller than conventional approaches same voltage ripple.
